Rig New Hire

Main areas of concern are team building, risk assessment, leadership and safety. The team understanding of these issues is vital. Team work and communication are essential to successfully meeting project objectives. With the new rig hire the team is just beginning to come together and lots of effort needs to be applied in learning about one another. This should become a high focus area for supervisors, yet the demands of the job at times will not permit this. Attention to team chemistry will play a big part in the operating efficiency of the team.

The potential for high stress levels and blame culture developing are real and efforts need to be made in eliminating these. Should these not be eliminated then erosion to team chemistry begins and project objectives become threatened and stress levels continue to rise as does the blame culture. If these are not relieved then good decision making abilities were restricted. This can lead to more re-action than pro-action. If a poor choice is taken it can complicate the situation.

This can lead to a snow balling effect making life at the work site very unpleasant and hurting the communication lines both at the work site and with shore-based office team members. Days can become longer and folks get worn down and team members who have good attitudes start to have doubts. Team chemistry is being eroded and confidence in the team's ability, especially seen and expected in the lead players, is starting to be questioned.
